Literary Ambiguity - Imayam

If a toy maker makes  a hundred spinning-tops he will make them all in the same fashion. If a wheelwright makes a hundred wheels they will all be the same. If a weaver weaves a hundred mats they will be the same. A writer is not like them. He cannot write a story like another one; cannot write one novel like another. Every short story, every novel must be new, a wonder. Every short story, every novel is a challenge, a test to the writer. How many of my seven short story collections, six novels and a novella written as response to my own challenge to myself have life and spirit in them is for the readers to judge and time to tell.

My works have merely tried to point out what disturbs the harmony of living, what threatens life, what makes life absurd and what actions of the state make the masses suffering under the heavy burden of living forget their pain instead of removing or reducing it. My short stories and novels are not intended for the amusement of the readers or society. They are a realistic record of social life.

Readers may, according to their knowledge and perspectives can judge what is right and wrong. Their sense of right or wrong need not be mine. The purpose of my writings is to represent men and women, family and community in their context and their beliefs and values, and not judge them. I am aware of literary amibigity and you also know what it is.
